PRESIDENT’S REPORT:
- Reduction of hours for clerical elementary secretary. 35 hours to 30 hours. Second stage grievance filed. Grievance has been denied by the employer.
- The Union’s position will be at this point to move the grievance to 3rd stage.
- We have also seen a reduction in the hours of some EA’s who currently have 30 hours being reduced to 27.5.
- The hours removed are being redeployed to other locations creating new 30 hour positions. The employer has assured the Union that we will not lose any 30 hour positions.
- The Union filed a grievance on Monday.
- As we are all aware the Government in a recent press release announced a plan to go down the road of shared services for Payroll, Accounts Payable & Human Resources.
- What this will look like and how long it will take both the Union and the employer have no idea.
- The Union continue to monitor this.
- The report on the Vancouver School Board by the Comptroller General makes many recommendations but the only ones that concern us are the ones to make reference to concessions by their Union groups and the problems collective agreements pose around shared services.
- Concessions are mentioned more than once. We will have to wait for the conclusion of this dispute over the budget to see if it has any impact on other school districts.
BARGAINING COMMITTEE REPORT:
- The School Board has no interest in going to the bargaining table until the Fall.
- Committee has met twice, worked very hard going over all the proposals and putting them in some kind of order.
- On the Provincial front, we expect to move forward as soon as possible.
