LOCAL 379 – SCHOLARSHIP

Application

 Four scholarships  in the amount of Five Hundred  Dollars each  ($500) will be awarded each year by The Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 379 – Burnaby to students who qualify under the rules and regulations listed below.  Please read the criteria carefully in order to avoid disqualification.

 

CRITERIA

 

  1. A grade twelve student presently.
  2. Has a parent or guardian who is a member of C.U.P.E. Local 379 and has been for at least one year.
  3. Is proceeding in September of the current year to a recognized School of Higher Learning.
  4. Must be planning to attend on a full-time basis at this recognized School of Higher Learning.  One or two courses will not qualify.
  5. Scholarship winners failing to provide the required certificate of acceptance into a recognized School of Higher Learning by August 31st in the current year will no longer be considered.

 

APPLICATIONS

 

  1. Applications for the Scholarship must be made on or before the 30th Day of June in each year and will be available only for the following academic and/or technical year.  Each successful applicant will be presented with a Letter of Intent which will expire on August 31st of that year if the applicant does ot provide the required certificate of acceptance.

 

  1. The Scholarship application must include the following: 

 

a)                 The completed form provided.

b)                 A letter, in the applicant’s own handwriting stating to what use the writer would put the scholarship if successful including full address & phone numbers.

c)                  Two letters of recommendation, one must be from the Principal or Vice-Principal of the school the applicant is currently attending.

d)                 The most recent table of marking.

An incomplete application will result in disqualification.

  • The applications will be submitted to CUPE Local 379’s Scholarship Committee for their decision whose recommendations will be binding.

 

  • The decision as to what constitutes a School of Higher Learning will rest entirely with the members of the Scholarship Committee.

 

  • CUPE Local 379 will issue a cheque to the Bursar or Registrar of the School of Higher Learning when registration receipt has been received from the scholarship winner.  This receipt must be received by August 31st of the current year.  Failure to provide the registration documentation will result in disqualification.
